7A - Vienna Lager

BJCP Style: 7A - Vienna Lager

I don't think I've had an actual German Vienna Lager, but Negra Modelo is pretty tasty so here we go!

  • Brew day: 2019-2-3
  • Malts: Vienna, Pils, Pale Chocolate
  • Hops: [Magnum] (Saphir)
  • Yeast: Weihenstephaner (SafLager W34/70) - use yeast from Czech Amber
  • OG: 12.4°P (1.050); FG: 2.5°P (1.010); ABV: 5.3%
  • Kegged: 2019-2-15
Grains. 4.5kg (10lbs) of Vienna, about 600g pils to make up the difference in the recipe requirements, and a bit of Pale Chocolate for color.

Crush

Brew session beer: tasty Altbier from Seedstock

Mash temp

Bag out. I've found it's much easier to drain on the side than try to hold up the bag

Hops: Magnum (FWH) and Saphir (5 min flameout)

2019-2-16 (+12): kegged and mostly carbonated

2019-2-25 (+21): 1 week in the keg. mostly clear and tasting great. Lots of vienna character. Nutty and malty without being too sweet.

2019-3-8 (+32): full pour - about as clear as it's going to get. Tasting great, definitely a keeper.
