Style: 27A - Pre-Prohibition Lager
Since I just kegged the American Lager, I wanted to re-use the yeast (WLP 840/American Lager) so what better way than to do a pre vs post prohibition lager comparison?
This was supposed to be made with Cluster hops which I didn't have at home. Turns out the LHBS didn't have any either but apparently Galena is an acceptable substitute so we'll see how it goes.
This is a 2-Row/Galena SMaSH using the settings for Pre-Prohibition lager from BJCP.
Full recipe is on Brewer's Friend, but here's the TL;DR
- brewday: 2018-6-2 (brew #2 of the day)
- malt: 2-row
- hop: Galena
- yeast: WLP 840 - American Lager
- OG: 1.053; FG 1.008; ABV 5.9%
- kegged: 2018-6-16
milled 2-row
Galena hops subbing for Cluster
Mash
Brewing Assistant / Floor Manager
Post-Prohibition Lager - just kegged, still a bit cloudy
Chilling
Transferring to the fermenter
Brix - translates to 1.053. Lower than expected efficiency again. I think I need to adjust the mill rollers...
And away we go. "PP Lager" because #im13andthisisfunny
