I had a stockpile of Azacca hops so this Pale Ale will be a Single Malt and Single Hop (SMaSH) with Maris Otter malt.
BJCP Styles: 18B - American Pale Ale, 12A - British Golden Ale
Full recipe is on brewersfriend.com but here's the TL;DR
- Brewed: 2017-11-18
- Malt: Maris Otter (oops, was a bit short on MO so there's about 1kg of 2-row)
- Hop: Azacca [10g 30m FWH] (60g @ 5 min) {168g 4 day dry hop}
- Yeast: S-04
- Efficiency: expected 75%, actual 73%
- Kegged: 2017-12-1
- FG 1.009, ABV ~5%
Mash temp:
BIAB Sparge
OG Hydrometer - a bit bubbly but looking like 1.048
In the fermenter
This got 168g of Azacca dry hop after one week. I put it in the fridge at brewday +11, gelatined and kegged the following days.
My tasting notes just one day after kegging/carbonation: Amazeballz. Clean and crisp malt. Pils-like. Firm bitterness. Pleasant hop character in flavor and aroma. Pineapple and peaches.
This is a keeper recipe and I'm looking forward to future hop experiments.
2018-11-30; this is another batch but exactly the same recipe with Galaxy hops made about a year later. Also I'm getting ready to make an El Dorado version.
